Bandsaw Cutting
Bandsaw-cutting steel involves using a power tool with a continuous, sharp-toothed band stretched between two wheels. To use this method, wear PPE, secure the steel, set up the bandsaw, mark the cutting line, lubricate the blade, make the cut, double-check the steel, and clean up. Prioritise safety and follow the manufacturer's guidelines for a safe and accurate cutting process.
Waterjet Cutting
Waterjet cutting is a high-pressure water-abrasive process used to cut various materials, including metals, plastics, composites, and hard materials like granite and glass. It offers advantages like minimal heat-affected zones, no tool changes, and precision in cutting intricate shapes. The process involves choosing the right machine, selecting the appropriate abrasive material, preparing a CAD file, programming the machine, loading the material, monitoring, post-processing, and inspecting the final product.
Hardness Testing Steel
Hardness testing is crucial for assessing the mechanical properties of steel and other materials. Common methods include Brinell, Rockwell, and Vickers tests. Brinell tests involve grinding and polishing the steel surface, applying a hardened steel ball, and maintaining a specific load. Rockwell tests use a Rockwell tester, applying a minor and major load and measuring the indentation depth. The resulting RHN value depends on the combination of major and minor scales.
